Report a barrier

If you or someone you know encounters a barrier that is preventing equal access, please report it to us.

Physical barriers to access

Physical barriers prevent equal access to a building or area. They are conditions in any structural environment that prevent or impede an individual with a disability from efficiently navigating the setting.

Barriers to access can include:

  • non-functioning door openers
  • non-functioning elevators
  • damaged curb cuts
  • issues with accessible restrooms
  • weather related issues such as snow blocked paths

How to report a physical barrier

To report physical barriers on any UW Campus (Seattle, Bothell, Tacoma, or UW Medicine), complete the form or contact .

After you report a physical barrier

The UW Facilities Customer Care Team will contact appropriate University resources from the specific campus to inform them of the report. This will initiate the process and our trained professionals will address your individual needs based on each set of circumstances.

Digital barriers to access

Digital barriers prevent equal access to websites, applications, or other IT. They are conditions in digital environments that prevent or impede an individual with a disability from efficiently using the technology.

Digital barriers to access can include:

  • on-line forms that are not keyboard operable
  • electronic documents or files that aren’t tagged for accessibility
  • videos without captions or audio descriptions
  • web applications or mobile apps that are screen-reader inaccessible

How to report a digital barrier

If you have a UW NetID

If you do not have a UW NetID

Send a detailed email to help@uw.edu with “Digital Accessibility Barrier” as the subject. Please include a description of the barrier and where you experienced it.

After you report a digital barrier

Your report will be routed to UWIT Accessible Technology Services (ATS) or a relevant team who can best address your needs, and status will be tracked through our online ticketing system.
