First: the email everything runs on
Housing & Food Services sent the move-in appointment email to your student’s UW inbox in mid-August, alongside their housing assignment. It holds the appointment time, the residence hall, and the check-in location. First move: ask your Husky to forward the whole email so you both have the details in hand. If the appointment time doesn’t work, your student can change it in the StarRez Housing Portal, based on availability. Print the for your dashboard; HFS requires one for every vehicle.
This week: pack and ship
The HFS packing checklist has what to bring (bedding is twin XL) and what stays home (space heaters, halogen lamps, toasters and other open-coil appliances). Packages can arrive at your student’s residential community up to seven days before their move-in appointment, so time shipments for that window rather than earlier. Use the hall’s mailing address from the HFS community pages, and put your student’s name and hall on every label.
The week before: travel and timing
Book lodging around your student’s appointment day, not the whole week. Check-in takes about two to three hours, and HFS plans for one vehicle and up to two guests per student at the check-in location, so decide ahead who unloads and who heads for the Move-In Family Lounge. Once the car is empty it moves to a campus , paid by the or the pay station in the lot. Have your Husky pack their Husky Card, or a photo ID, for key pickup. If your family fits one of the paths below, your dates look a little different.
Greek recruitment runs on its own calendar
Sorority and fraternity recruitment wrapped with Bid Day on Wed., Sept. 16. Panhellenic potential new members moved into residence halls Wed., Sept. 9, and IFC checked in Thu., Sept. 10. Recruitment housing is arranged by the councils and ends after recruitment week, separate from the HFS appointment above. See the and the .

Why the details go to your student
A federal privacy law called FERPA means UW sends housing details straight to students, not parents. Asking your Husky to forward the email is the intended path, and a good first taste of the year ahead. If your student wants HFS to be able to discuss their housing account with you directly, they can grant that access themselves in under Student Personal Services.
